I was wondering because I read somewhere that blanketing a horse with a winter hair coat reduces the horses natural protection against cold. She’s outside almost all the time.

I am showing competively in western pleasure, and I don’t want my horse to get a winter coat. I have no clue how many blankets to put on him. If anyone has any suggestions please help

My parents won’t let me blanket my horse all winter. I **** my horses winter coat but I guess I will just have to deal with it. Since it gets really cold at night and my horses artharitus acts up when he gets cold, should I just put a blanket on him at night and take it off in the morning when I feed? Or should I not use a blanket at all? I’m going to clip him in April before show season because he doesn’t start shedding untill the end of May early June.
