Horse blankets are pretty handy to have around a stable, but not essential for every horse owner. A standard horse blanket is used to keep a horse warm and or protected from wind and other elements.

I live in Florida. Here the cold weather isn’t to cold but we get alot of cold fronts. I want to get a horse blanket for my tb that isn’t heavy, keeps a horse warm but doesn’t make a horse get hot when the coldness isn’t so cold but keeps them warm when it is cold.

Caring for your horse through the winter months is very important for the horses health. Horses can tolerate the cold weather and stay as healthy as possible as long as they are fit before winter approaches. During the winter horses will have special needs which you as the owner will have to address like the use of an equestrian rug.

Horses are very sensitive animals. They need to be aware of changes in energy around them so that they can avoid their natural enemies in the wild. We pamper our domesticated horses by feeding them, keeping them warm with horse blankets in cold weather and protecting them from midges with fly sheets in the warmer weather. This doesn’t mean that they’ve lost their ability to sense what’s happening in their surroundings. Whenever you ride a horse you are in close contact with it so it will be picking up much more than just the sensation of your seat, legs and hands at their points of contact with its body.

Because horse blankets are used for so many different situations, it shouldn’t be surprising for you to find that there are many different types of horse blankets and sheets.
