I am getting a horse and she cribs so she is being put on full field board. i was wondering if she needed a blanket. and if so, should i get her a turnout, and a sheet?
She is a 6 y/o TB mare. there are other horses in her field. I’m not sure if im going to keep her clipped during the winter or not. probablty not though.
where i live it sometimes gets cold in the winter i think the coldest ive experienced is maybe 16 f bbuut that was during a blizzard in the middle of winter.

It depends on a lot of factors. Is she a breed with a thin coat like a thoroughbred or arabian, or a draft with a nice thick coat? Is your climate very cold, is it windy? Is she with other horses she can huddle with, are they blanketed? Does she have any shelter, a covered area, trees, bushes, hills? Does she always have access to hay and grass? Eating 24/7 is what keeps horses warm. You’ll get more answers in the horse section.

If you want your pony to stay warm and clean then yes. But otherwise your horse should do fine, unless it’s below like 32 degrees…. then i’d say put a medium-heavy weight on. otherwise just put a light weight on (turnout) but I wouldn’t put it on any hotter than 65 degrees for she will be hot.
